This weekend...

So, it was a busy weekend, filled with friends and food. I like those kinds of weekends.

My high school girlfriends came over for some fun and laughter. I made homemade guacamole, breaded eggplant and white fish. We stuffed our faces until we burst. Naomi brought some delicious vegan banana bread that she made (I think it was vegan). My husband thinks all we do is talk about our vaginas, but that's not true. Sometimes we also talk about our butts (I jest). We get together and talk about what's been happening in our lives, get things off our chests, and make plans for future gatherings.

Later that day, we went to our neighbors house for some delicious homemade soup and pasta. I have to say, our neighbors spoil us a lot with their scrumptious cooking. I hope they know how much we appreciate and love them.

On Sundays, we always meet our friends for breakfast and talk about what's happend during the previous week. This week, we found out our friend John won a contest at our other friend Kristin's place of employment.

Sue and Naomi are catching up. Sue looks like she's had enough of me taking photos of her.

The bread I toasted (and didn't burn) for the homemade guacamole.

The eggplant with ricotta cheese and tomatoes.

Karen heating the pan for the pasta.

Mike checking the soup. Izzy looks on, coaching him all the way.

Buddy can't wait to eat. He thinks it smells yummy!

Karen bought some new spring colored plates.

John, durning breakfast, showing off his winnings.

He really wants to know.

See you soon!

Another great breakfast!

This past Sunday's breakfast was at Sophia's in Roscoe. We had a great turnout and the food was delicious. Breakfast eater Kristin brought papers for us to color for a contest at her work. Drawing's not my forte, but I can add color inside the lines like nobodys fool. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of our drawings, but I do have pics of our breakfast gathering.

Dan and Mike are making their breakfast choices. Corned beef hash? Eggs benedict?

The menu.

Dennis always gets oatmeal.

Kristin eats lunch instead of breakfast.

The rolls were soft and yummy.

See you next Sunday!

What's on my camera lately

So, I've been a little lazy in the blogging department, but here I am now. So, what have I been doing these past two weeks? Let's have a look.

We had a rally at work. We were picketed to show the state they couldn't make cuts that would hurt us.

My co-worker holding the sign I made.

On St. Patty's day, our neighbors invited us over for dinner. K set the table in green and yellow and brought out the good silverware. We felt special.

Here is one of the dishes M made us. I can't remember what kind of soup it was, but it was delicious.

Just the other day, my hubby and I went to the new conservatory that opened in town. It reminded me of a hotel I went to once, that had a bigger conservatory in the center of it. The city is also re-doing the lagoon that's outside. It's all going to be quite beautiful when they're finished.

It was a warm night the other night (which is unusual for the midwest in March), so my hubby and I decided to go to Cold Stone and share a like it of the Pie Who Loved Me. One of my favorites. We've decided to make this a monthly thing and try all the selections on their menu. I can't wait until April!

Today, after breakfast, we went to the bike path by Midway Village to walk off our many plates of food. They have a Vietnam memorial along the path and you can walk up to the helicopter and look inside.

After we arrive home, I decided I needed to clean all the dead leaves from last year to give these new buds room to grow. Again, I can't believe the warm weather we've had around here. I'm wondering what the rest of the year will be like.

So, that's what I've been up to so far.
Until next time...

Breakfast at Soto's

This Sunday's breakfast was at one of my favorite places, Tortacos Soto. They have the best huevos con chorizo and salsa. If I hade my way, I'd eat there every Sunday.

I felt a little out numbered with all the testosterone at the table. Another female friend did happen to show up later with her boyfriend, but two against six is still not fair.

The special salsa is on the right. It has avocado in it and the heat slowly sneaks up on you, but it's damn good! They only serve it on the weekends.

The scooping utensils for the terrific salsa.

A close up of the salsa with lime. Extra good.

My breakfast of choice, chorizo with eggs.

Mr. Sherman's breakfast of choice, something with mole sauce in it. I forget.

If you ever want to join us at breakfast, send me your email and I'll add you to our list. We go every Sunday to a new place.

See you next time!

Black Hawk

I've always complained that there's not much to do or see where I live, but today I actually proved myself wrong. I wasn't born in Illinois, but I grew up here and have explored the cities that surround my city, a lot. So, I surprised myself when I was driving home from Oregon, IL today, saw the Black Hawk statue, and realized I have never actually seen it up close. I've always wanted to. I don't know why I haven't made the trip before, but when I spotted it across the river, I decided today would be the day. You can read about it's history here.

The statue is that-a-way.

The statue.

What the statue is actually looking at.

Reading about the history of the statue.

Another view of the statue. I like saying statue. Statue, statue, statue...

Until next time!

February photo challenge

I've been taking part in an online photography project this month. I found the list here and decided it was just what I needed after doing my 365 day project. The good thing about this is, I can be a little lazy. Someone else decides what I photograph each day, and I get to use my iphone to take the pictures. Don't get me wrong, I love my Canon, but it's nice to use something small for a change. Plus, I have some cool filters too.

Here are some of the highlights:

Sunday Breakfast

Every Sunday, my husband and I meet our friends for breakfast at a random restaurant. This tradition was started by a friend of my husband who has since passed away. When my better half was younger, he and his friend were in a band together, and after a weekend of playing out, they would meet at the same restaurant on Sunday at noon.

After his friend died, my husband decided to honor his memory and carry on the tradition, with a little change. Instead of going to the same restaurant every weekend, we made a list and chose one at random. We've been doing this breakfast meet up every weekend for the past 10 years. Wow!

As of late, we've decided to add more ethnic restaurants to the list, not necessarily having breakfast food, but still calling it breakfast just the same. This Sunday's breakfast was at the Sahara Palace. It's in a new, second location. The food is mediterranean and it was delicious. I especially loved the arabic coffee. I think it's my new favorite infatuation.

Kristin likes to stay hydrated.

The arabic coffee is served in small cups, but that's all you need because you end up sipping it anyway.

John looking up facts for the group. I think it's about whether or not it's safe to eat orange peels or not.

Charlie and his coffee cup.

I couldn't resist photographing Anne's fingernails.

Anne received her meal first, beef shawerma. It was good!

Dan had the tandoori chicken sandwich, also tasty!

The fellows always extend their pinkies when drinking their coffee.

Well, it was another great breakfast. Maybe we'll see you next Sunday!
